Ingredients:

• 1 cup gram flour
• 10-12 fresh large omam leaves, finely chopped
• 1 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
• 1 Onion finely chopped
• 2 Green chillies finely chopped
• 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
• 3-4 pinches Asafoetida
• salt to taste
• oil to deep fry

Method:

  1. Sprinkle a little salt on chopped onion. Keep aside for five minutes.
  2. Sprinkle gram flour, coriander and omam leaves over onions.
  3. Add all other ingredients, except oil for frying.
  4. Mix gently with hand.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan and allow it to smoke lightly.
  6. Pour 1 tbsp oil over batter.
  7. Mix again, dropping small dumplings of dough into oil.
  8. Deep fry on medium-low heat till crisp and golden.
  9. Drain and place on absorbent kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with tamarind or green chutneys.
