Ingredients:
• raw Rice – 2 cup
• Bengal Gram (chana) dal – ½ cup
• red gram (thovar) dal – ½ cup
• grated Coconut – ½ cup
• grated Carrot – ½ cup
• green chilies, minced – 1 tsp
• curry leaves, finely chopped – 1 tbsp
• oil – 2 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• black gram (urad) dal – 2 tsp
• Fenugreek (methi) – ½ tsp
• salt to taste
Method:
- Soak rice and all the dals together for 2-3 hours.
- Grind them together to a coarse paste using about 1 cup of water.
- Add 2 more cups of water and salt.
- Mix in coconut, carrot, green chilies and curry leaves.
- Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds.
- When they splutter, add back gram dal and fenugreek.
- Fry till dal is light brown.
- Add the rice and dal mixture.
- Cook stirring on medium heat till the mixture becomes a soft lump.
- When the cooked mixture is cool enough to handle, shape it into lime size balls, with wet hands.
- Place the balls in a steamer and steam for 15 minutes.
- Serve hot with chutney.
