Ingredients:

• raw Rice – 2 cup
• Bengal Gram (chana) dal – ½ cup
• red gram (thovar) dal – ½ cup
• grated Coconut – ½ cup
• grated Carrot – ½ cup
• green chilies, minced – 1 tsp
• curry leaves, finely chopped – 1 tbsp
• oil – 2 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• black gram (urad) dal – 2 tsp
• Fenugreek (methi) – ½ tsp
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak rice and all the dals together for 2-3 hours.
  2. Grind them together to a coarse paste using about 1 cup of water.
  3. Add 2 more cups of water and salt.
  4. Mix in coconut, carrot, green chilies and curry leaves.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds.
  6. When they splutter, add back gram dal and fenugreek.
  7. Fry till dal is light brown.
  8. Add the rice and dal mixture.
  9. Cook stirring on medium heat till the mixture becomes a soft lump.
  10. When the cooked mixture is cool enough to handle, shape it into lime size balls, with wet hands.
  11. Place the balls in a steamer and steam for 15 minutes.
  12. Serve hot with chutney.
