Ingredients:

• 1 cup – tur dal or masoor dal
• 2 – big tomatoes, chopped
• 3 or 4 pods – garlic, smashed
• 2 tsp – chilli powder
• 1 tsp – Cumins powder
• 1 tsp – coriander powder
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 2 – red chillies, broken into bits
• A few Curry leaves
• 1 tbsp – oil
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash the dal and cook along with the tomatoes, turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and 3 cups of water in a pressure cooker.
  2. When the dal is cooked, mash well, add the salt, and a little more water, if required.
  3. In another vessel heat oil and the smashed garlic, mustard, red chillies and curry leaves.
  4. When the mustard splutters pour in the cooked dal and mix well.
  5. Serve with rice.
