Ingredients:

• Small Onions – 20
• Tomato – 2
• Green chillies – 8 to 10
• Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
• Sambar powder – 2 tsps
• Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Tamarind extract – 3 spoons
• Turmeric – a pinch
• Curry leaves and Coriander leaves -few sprigs
• 4 tbsp – Oil
• salt to taste
• For seasoning:
• Mustard Seeds – 1/2 spoon
• Urad Dal – 1 tsp
• Bengal Gram dal – 1 tsp| | 5 – Dry Red Chillies

Method:

  1. Pressure cook dal with enough water. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in pan. Add seasonings, fry for a while. Add turmeric, sambhar powder, red chilli powder saute for a while.
  3. Add small onions, green chillies, curry leaves, diced tomatoes, tamarind pulp and 1/2 cup water. Allow to boil till onions are cooked.
  4. Mash the cooked dal. Add to the boiling sambar. Add enough water to bring it to sambhar consistency.
  5. Add chopped coriander on top.
  6. Also add 1/2 tsp of gingili oil to make it tastier.
