Ingredients:

• cooked Rice – 4 cup
• sesame or vegetable oil – 4 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Fenugreek – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• white sesame seeds – 2 tsp
• black gram (Urad) Dal – 2 tsp
• dry Red Chillies – 3, broken into pieces
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• asafetida – 1/4 tsp
• Tamarind pulp – 2 tsp
• grated Coconut – 1 cup
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a Kadai.
  2. Add sesame seeds.
  3. When they splutter, add fenugreek and cumin.
  4. After few seconds, add sesame seeds and black gram Dal.
  5. When these turn golden brown, add chillies, turmeric powder and asafetida.
  6. Add tamarind pulp and 1/2 cup of water.
  7. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Add rice and salt.
  9. Mix well and keep covered on low heat for 5 minutes.
  10. Remove from fire and mix in the grated coconut.
