Ingredients:

• Toor Dal – 1 cup
• Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Green chillies – 5
• Tomatoes – 2
• Spinach – 1 bunch
• For seasoning:
• 1/2 tbsp – Channa dal
• 1/2 tbsp – Urad Dal
• 1/2 tbsp – mustard
• 1/4 tsp – Jeera
• pinch of Asafoetida
• pinch of Turmeric
• 2 cups – water

Method:

  1. Wash dal and pressure cook with 2 cups of water and turmeric.
  2. In a thick-bottom vessel, heat 1 tbsp oil with seasoning ingredients.
  3. Once mustard splutters, add asafoetida.
  4. To this, add chopped tomatoes. Saute.
  5. After 1 min, add spinach.
  6. Cover the lid and cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Mash the cooked dal.
  8. Once the spinach wilts, add the dal, salt and red chilli powder.
  9. Simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  10. Serve with hot rice and ghee.
