Ingredients:

• 2 cups – beets, grated
• Tamarind – size of a betel nut
• Salt, according to taste
• Seasoning
• 4 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1-2 – Red Chillies
• Pinch of Asafoetida (hing) powder

Method:

  1. Take little oil in a kadai and fry the dal till golden brown in colour. In the end, add the chillies and hing powder.
  2. Keep it aside.
  3. Steam cook the beets in little oil till the raw smell goes and it becomes tender.
  4. First grind the seasonings with salt and tamarind to crumble it.
  5. Then add the cooked beets and grind it further till it mixes well.
  6. Do not add water.
  7. Make sure that it doesn’t become pasty.
