Ingredients:

• 4 – Tomatoes
• Tamarind, a small piece
• 1 tsp – salt
• 1 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• For seasoning:
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• Asafoetida, a pinch
• Oil for frying

Method:

  1. Add the tomatoes in boiled water and cover with a lid. After 1 hour take out the tomatoes and peel the skin.
  2. Grind the tomatoes along with red chilli powder, salt, tamarind in a mixer to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, and add mustard seeds once the oil is hot.
  4. When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add the ground paste and fry over a low flame.
  5. When the mixture thickens and starts separating from the oil, remove from the flame.
  6. Tomato thokku is ready to be served with hot chapattis or curd rice.
