Ingredients:

• 2 cup – water melon white rinds, chopped
• 1/2 cup – Banana blossom, chopped and soaked in buttermilk
• 1/4 cup – moong dal
• 1/2 cup – Channa dal
• 1 – onion, chopped
• 2 – green chillies, slit
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• A few – Curry leaves
• 1 tsp each – mustard seeds, urad dal, Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• Coriander leaves – chopped
• To grind:
• 1 tbsp – Channa dal
• 2 tbsp – Coriander seeds
• 1/4 tsp- Fenugreek seeds
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• 2 tbsp – grated Coconut

Method:

  1. Dry roast the channa dal, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, grated coconut and dry red chillies and grind them. Keep aside.
  2. Heat enough oil in a pressure cooker, splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and asafoetida powder.
  3. Add the chopped onions and slit green chillies, saute until the onions turn translucent.
  4. Now add the watermelon white rinds, banana blossom (strain the buttermilk), salt and turmeric powder, and saute for a few minutes.
  5. Add the washed dals and enough water. Pressure cook up to 3 whistles.
  6. Once the steam gets released, add the spice powder as per need and curry leaves. Bring everything to a boil and turn off the stove. Garnish the coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or rotis.
