Ingredients:

• 1 cup – black whole Urad Dal
• salt to taste
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1/4 tsp – Hing powder
• 1 tsp – Ginger (chopped)
• 2 – Green chillies (chopped)
• 2 – dry Red Chillies
• 1/4 cup – grated Coconut
• oil as required
• a few Curry leaves

Method:

  1. Soak the black whole urad dal overnight and cook in a pressure cooker with salt and enough water (up to 3 whistles).
  2. Strain the water and keep the dal aside.
  3. Heat enough oil and fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves with hing.
  4. Add the chopped ginger pieces, green chillies and cook for a few seconds.
  5. Add the cooked whole urad dal, salt and grated coconut.
  6. Toss the ingredients gently for a few minutes and put off the flame.
  7. Serve warm.
