Ingredients:

• Yam – 500 gm
• Onions – 1 cup, chopped
• Tomatoes – 1 cup, chopped
• Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
• black pepper Corns – 1 tsp
• fennel (saunf) – 1 tbsp
• grated Coconut – 1/3 cup
• Red Chillies – 5 to 6
• Garlic – 6 flakes
• Ginger – small piece
• oil – 4 tbsp
• Cinnamon – 1 piece
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Wash and peel the yam.
  2. Cut it into 2 cm pieces.
  3. Boil in water till soft but not mushy. Drain well.
  4. Roast all the ingredients from coriander to ginger in 1 tbsp of oil and grind to a paste.
  5. Heat oil in a fry pan.
  6. Add cinnamon onion.
  7. When onions are brown, add the yam pieces and fry till they are browned.
  8. Add the ground masala, salt and tomatoes.
  9. Simmer till the masala is cooked and tomatoes are pulpy.
  10. Serve with steamed rice or chapattis.
