
Ingredients:
• 1 cup – Toor Dal
• 1 tsp – sugar, optional
• 1 cup – chopped Onion
• 6 flakes – Garlic
• 2 cm – Ginger
• 3 – 4 – Green chillies
• 3 tbsp – Ghee or oil
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 pinch – Asafoetida
• 1 tsp – chilli powder
• Curry leaves few
• Coriander leaves to garnish
• salt
Method:
- Pressure cook dal with about 2 cups of water and 1/2 the onions till soft.
- Cool and open the cooker after 15 minutes.
- Add salt and sugar (optional) and mix well.
- Meanwhile finely chop garlic, ginger and green chillies.
- Heat oil or ghee in a kadai. Add cumin.
- When it splutters, add curry leaves and asafoetida.
- Add the remaining onion, garlic, ginger and green chillies.
- Fry till onions are light brown. Add chilli powder.
- Add the dal and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Serve garnished with coriander leaves.
- Goes well with rice or chapatti.
