Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Rice
• 1 cup – moong dal
• 2 – Green chillies
• 1 – small Ginger (chopped)
• 3 – pepper Corns
• 1 pinch – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 2 tbsp – grated Coconut
• Sprig of Curry leaves
• 1/2 – Lime
• 1 tbsp – grated Carrots (optional)
• Salt to taste.

Method:

  1. Wash moong dal and rice thoroughly.
  2. Heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds and 1/2 tsp jeera and pepper corns.
  3. After it splutters, add curry leaves and chopped green chillies and ginger. Add the rice and moong dal and fry for 2 minutes.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt. Pour warm water and bring to a boil. Cook on low flame. Keep stirring, to prevent it from sticking to bottom. When the rice is cooked add lime juice. Remove from flame.
  5. Garnish with coconut gratings and carrot gratings. Serve hot with papads.
