Ingredients:

• 250 g – French beans
• 1 cup – Tur dal
• 2-3 – Red Chillies
• 1/2 tsp – Hing
• 3 tbsp – Oil
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Chop the French beans finely and boil it with a little salt and keep it aside. Soak tuvar dal with the red chillies for about 2 hours. Then grind to a coarse paste with a minimum amount of water. Add hing and a little salt.
  2. Pressure cook the dal mixture till you hear 5 whistles.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool and break the lumps and make it into a coarse powder (you can use the chopper attachment in the food processor for this).
  4. Take oil in a pan.
  5. Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  6. Add the dal mix and beans to it and fry well.
  7. Add salt if required. This goes well with kadhi, jeera rasam and rice.
  8. Similar preparation can be made with banana flowers in which case the florets have to be separated and the black stamen has to be removed.
  9. The flowers can be cooked in the pressure cooker along with the dal mix.
