Ingredients:
• Urad Dal (split) – 1/2 cup
• Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
• Wheat flour – 1.5 cups
• Oil / Ghee – 4 tsps
• Water – 1/2 cup
• Oil for deep frying
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Soak the dal in water overnight. Drain and grind into fine paste.
- Heat half oil and fry the dal paste till dry. Then mix in cumin seeds, chilli powder and salt. Keep aside.
- Into the flour, mix in the remaining oil, salt and water to make a dough. Knead it well and make a stiff dough.
- Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for half an hour.
- Then make small balls and flatten them a bit with your palm.
- Put 1 tbsp of peethi mixture in the centre of each tikki. Pinch the edges together to form a ball again. Roll out into a 2 inch chapatti.
- Heat the oil and deep-fry these kachoris till light brown and puffed.
- Drain them and serve hot with pickle or chutney.
