Ingredients:

• 1 cup – chholar daal
• 1- large Onion sliced finely
• 1 – large Potato cut into cubes
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• 1 tbsp – white cumin powder
• 1/2 tbsp – coriander powder
• 1/2 tbsp – Curry leaves
• 1/2 tbsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tbsp – salt 1/2 tbsp – Sugar
• 1 tbsp – oil
• 3 – Cloves
• 3 – Cardamom pods
• 1/2 tbsp – Cinnamon powder
• Ingredients for Ghee Bhat:
• 2 cups – basmati Rice
• 1 tbsp – black Mustard Seeds
• A handful of dry curry leaves.
• A handful of chives
• Salt to taste
• 3 tbsps – Ghee

Method:

  1. For the ghee rice, splutter mustard in oil.
  2. Add in the remaining ingredients and saute for some time.
  3. Then add enough water and cook till done.
  4. Meanwhile, heat oil in pressure cooker.
  5. Add red chillies, onion and fry.
  6. Add cubed potato.
  7. Mix cumin, coriander, curry leaves, and turmeric powder in 1/2 cup water.
  8. Add salt and sugar. Stir.
  9. Add daal and pressure cook.
  10. Meanwhile, dry roast cloves, cardamom and cinnamon powder.
  11. Add to the cooked daal.
  12. Let the daal thicken on medium flame.
  13. Serve hot with rice.
