Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup – green grams
• 1/2 cup – Channa dal
• 1 – Potato (chopped)
• 2 – Carrots (chopped)
• 1 – onion(chopped)
• 2 – Green chillies (slit opened)
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Urad Dal
• 2 – dry Red Chillies
• 1/4 tsp – asafetida powder
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• A few sprigs – Curry leaves
• Salt to taste
• Oil as required
• To roast and grind:
• 2 tbsp – Coriander seeds
• 1/2 tsp -peppercorns
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 3 – dry Red Chillies
• 3 tbsp – grated Coconut

Method:

  1. Roast and grind all the ingredients into a fine paste with enough water.
  2. Pressure cook green grams and channa dal with turmeric powder and enough water until 3 whistles and keep aside.
  3. Heat enough oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, asafoetida powder and fry the red chillies until brown.
  4. Add onions, curry leaves, green chillies and saute until the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add carrots and potatoes and cook for a few minutes.
  6. Add the cooked and mashed dals, the ground spice paste and cook everything for a few minutes.
