Ingredients:
• 1/2 – Onions
• 1/2 – Tomatoes
• Tamarind, the size of a small ball
• 4 to 5 pods – Garlic
• Brinjal or ladyfinger as per own choice
• 1 tsp – sambar powder
• Salt
• 1 tsp – Turmeric
• Coconut (optional)
• 4 or 5 – Red Chillies
• 1 tsp – mustard
• 1 tsp – Channa dal
Method:
- First in a kadai heat oil, add mustard seeds. Once it crackles, add 1 tsp of channa dal and red chillies. Add onions, when it becomes soft, add tomatoes and tamarind pulp
- Add sambar powder and turmeric powder.
- Saute for 5 mins.
- If required, add some grated coconut.
- Allow it to cool for 10 mins then grind the above into a paste.
- Heat oil in another kadai, add brinjal (slit into 4) and fry very well.
- Now add the ground paste with some water and salt.
- Boil for 5 mins and serve with rice.
