Ingredients:

• 1 cup – masoor dal (red dal)
• 2 – Tomatoes
• 1 tsp – chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – cumin powder
• salt to taste
• 1 tbsp – oil
• 1 – onion, chopped
• few Curry leaves
• 1 tsp – Ghee
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• ½ tsp – Cumin seeds

Method:

  1. Cook the masoor dal along with the chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder and 2 or 3 cups of water till it becomes soft.
  2. Add salt and mix well.
  3. Remove it from heat.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard, and curry leaves.
  5. When the mustard begins to crackle add the onions and cumin seeds and saute till it turns brown.
  6. Turn off the heat.
  7. Now add the cooked dal and a tsp of ghee and mix well.
  8. Serve with steamed rice and any side dish.
