Ingredients:

• Fresh Cabbage -1/2 Kg
• Potato – 1 (Big)
• Tuar Dhal – 100 g
• Grated Coconut – 100 g
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Dry Red Chillies – 2
• Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
• Mustard – 1/2 tsp
• Cooking Oil – 1 tsp (for seasoning)
• Curry leaves – 8 to 10 (for garnishing)
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Chop the cabbage finely and dice the potato into small cubes and keep aside.
  2. Wash tuar dal and pressure cook it.
  3. Add turmeric powder and salt to the cut vegetables and cook separately till fully cooked.
  4. Make a paste of grated coconut along with cumin seeds and dry red chillies.
  5. Add pressure cooked tuar dhal and the paste to the cooked vegetables.
  6. Half a glass of water could be added if the stew is too thick.
  7. Stir all the contents and allow this mixture to simmer for 5 mins. Do not let it boil.
  8. Garnish molakootal with curry leaves and season it with mustard and cooking oil.
  9. Seasoning:
  10. Take a spoon of cooking oil in a small pan and heat it on low flame.
  11. | Allow the mustard seeds to splutter in hot oil and pour this into the molakootal.
