Ingredients:

• 200 gm – moth dal
• 2 tsp – garlic, chopped
• 2 tsp – ginger, grated
• 1 cup – onion, finely chopped
• 3 – tomatoes, chopped
• 2 tsp – green chilly, chopped
• 3 tbsp – clarified Butter
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• spices: 1 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp – coriander powder
• 1/2 tsp – red chili powder
• salt to taste
• 1 tsp – Garam Masala
• 1/4 cup – coriander leaves, chopped

Method:

  1. Wash and cook moth in 3 glasses of water with 1/2 tsp of salt for 4 whistles in a pressure cooker.
  2. Take 1/2 bowl of boiled dal, smash it and keep it aside.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and with the sound of crackling add grated ginger and garlic.
  4. Saute and wait till it becomes golden.
  5. Add chopped onions.
  6. Saute for 5 minutes till they are light golden and add all spices and salt, stir it.
  7. Now add chopped chillies and tomatoes.
  8. Stir and cook till oil comes out.
  9. Now add the dal kept aside.
  10. Stir continuously till ghee comes out from edges.
  11. Add this masala to boiled dal.
  12. Allow the dal to cook for 10 minutes so that the masala mixes properly and a flavour arises.
  13. Remove it from heat, add garam masala and chopped coriander leaves.
  14. Serve hot with rice and chapatti.
