Ingredients:

• Split peas – 200 g
• Onion – 1 (chopped)
• Tomato -1 large (chopped finely)
• Green chillies – 2
• Finely chopped Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup
• Ginger – 1 small piece finely chopped
• Garlic – 2 to 3 flakes (finely cut)
• Oil
• Salt to taste
• Water – 1 or 2 cups
• For masala:-
• Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
• Garam Masala – 1 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Method:

  1. Wash and cook the peas in a cooker.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. When they start sputtering add the onions. Fry till soft.
  4. Add the garlic and chillies. Fry for a few minutes on low flame.
  5. Add the tomatoes and masala. Fry for a few more minutes.
  6. Mash the boiled peas well. Add to the pan with a little water (depending on the consistency you want), salt and cook for a few minutes.
  7. Remove from the flame when it starts bubbling.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Serve with hot rotis or rice.
