Ingredients:
• 4 slices – bread (white or brown)
• 1 tbsp – Channa dal (gram dal)
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• a pinch of Garam Masala
• a pinch of Turmeric powder
• salt to taste
• 2 tbsp – oil
• 1 – Tomato (small), sliced
• 1 – Onion (small), sliced
• 2 – Green chillies
• a handful of Green peas (optional)
Method:
- Heat the oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the channa dal, then the sliced onion.
- Add turmeric powder and a bit of garam masala.
- Add one sliced tomato, the green chillies and salt to taste.
- Add the green peas and cook for some time.
- Now add the bread slices cut into small pieces and cook again. Sprinkle water if you want the upma to be softer.
