Ingredients:

• 4 slices – bread (white or brown)
• 1 tbsp – Channa dal (gram dal)
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• a pinch of Garam Masala
• a pinch of Turmeric powder
• salt to taste
• 2 tbsp – oil
• 1 – Tomato (small), sliced
• 1 – Onion (small), sliced
• 2 – Green chillies
• a handful of Green peas (optional)

Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add the channa dal, then the sliced onion.
  3. Add turmeric powder and a bit of garam masala.
  4. Add one sliced tomato, the green chillies and salt to taste.
  5. Add the green peas and cook for some time.
  6. Now add the bread slices cut into small pieces and cook again. Sprinkle water if you want the upma to be softer.
