Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup – butter, softened
• 1/4 cup – shortening
• 3/4 cup – white Sugar
• 1 – Egg
• 1 tsp – vanilla extract
• 1-1/3 cups and 1 tbsp – all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp – Cream of tartar
• 1/2 tsp – baking soda
• 1/8 tsp – salt
• 2 to 3 tbsp – white Sugar
• 2 tsp – ground Cinnamon
• 1 tsp – ground Cardamom powder (or more if you like Cardamom)
Method:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Cream together butter, shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.
- Now add the dry ingredients into the wet ones and blend well.
- Make sure you don’t over-mix them. The result will be a slightly sticky dough.
- Mix the cinnamon and cardamom (if using) along with sugar and spread it on a plate.
- Shape dough into balls. Since the dough is a little sticky, you can dust your hands with the sugar and spice mixture to help shape the rounds.
- Once shaped, roll the balls of dough in the sugar and spice mixture until they are well coated on all sides.
- Make sure to place these balls at least 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet (or use parchment paper).
- They spread while baking.
- Remove them after 5-6 minutes when they are crisp on the surface and break well but slightly soft on the inside.
