Ingredients:

• 1/2 kg – shrimps, cleaned.
• 2 cups – onion, chopped.
• 1 cup – tomato, chopped.
• Lime size ball – tamarind.
• 3 – green chillies, slit.
• 5 tbsp – oil.
• 1 tsp – mustard.
• 1/2 tsp – fenugreek.
• a few – curry leaves.
• 2 tbsp – Ginger Garlic paste.
• 2 tsp – chilli powder.
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder.
• 3 tsp – coriander powder.
• salt to taste.

Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in 1/2 a cup of water and extract the juice.
  2. Heat the oil in a kadai.
  3. Add mustard and fenugreek.
  4. When they splutter, add curry leaves and green chillies.
  5. Fry for a few seconds.
  6. Add onion, fry till it is light brown.
  7. Add ginger-garlic paste, fry till fragrant.
  8. Add all the powders and tomato.
  9. Cook till the tomatoes are reduced to a pulp.
  10. Add shrimps and salt.
  11. Cover and simmer till prawns are cooked.
  12. Add tamarind extract and simmer without covering for 5 mins.
  13. Serve with steamed rice, idly or dosa.
