Ingredients:
• 1 cup – Channa dal (Black gram dal)
• 5 cup – water
• 1 – small onion, finely chopped
• 1 – medium tomato, finely chopped
• 1 tbsp – each Ginger and garlic, finely chopped
• 2 – green chillies, finely chopped
• 2 tbsp – cilantro, finely chopped
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp – Garam Masala powder
• 1 tsp – Jeera
• 1 pinch – Hing
• salt – to taste
• 2 tbsp – Butter
• 2 tbsp – pure Ghee
Method:
- Wash the dal, cook in a pressure cooker with water, turmeric, salt and butter.
- After one whistle, let it cook on a slow heat for another five mins.
- In the meantime, take ghee in a pan, heat it and put jeera.
- When jeera starts to splutter, put garlic and onion.
- Saute it till onions are a little golden brown.
- Now mix tomatoes, ginger and let them cook for 1-2 mins.
- Then add hing, chopped chilli and chopped cilantro.
- Let it cook again for another minute, add red chilli and garam masala powders.
- Once the dal is done mix the masala thoroughly.
- Let the dal boil once with the masala.
- Serve hot with chapatti or rice.
