Ingredients:
• 1 cup – Sprouted horse grams (kollu)
• 1 cup – Toor Dal (Thuvaram Paruppu)
• 1 – Onion chopped
• 1 – Tomato chopped
• 2 – Green chillies (slit opened)
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1 tsp – Dhania powder
• 1 tsp – Lemon juice
• 1/4 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• 2 – Dry Red Chillies
• 5 – Curry leaves
• 2 tsp – Coriander leaves
• Salt
• Oil
• 1 cup – vegetables (to your desire)
Method:
- Pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric powder up to 3 whistles.
- Heat oil in a kadai, add the mustard seeds, urad dal and red chillies with asafoetida powder.
- Let them splutter and get fried.
- Add chopped onion and chopped tomatoes with salt and stir them continuously until they turn translucent.
- Add the sprouted horse grams and green chillies to the vegetables.
- Stir it for a while. This helps the horse grams to get a bit cooked.
- Add the cooked toor dal with enough water, red chilli powder and dhania powder along with the dal.
- Once the horse gram is a little cooked, add the toor dal.
- Let it cook until the vegetables get cooked well. Add the curry leaves and coriander leaves to the dal.
- Put off the stove and add the lemon juice to the sambar.
- Don’t add the lemon juice while it is boiling. This will destroy the vitamin C present in lemon juice.
- Serve hot with rice topped with ghee.
