Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Sprouted horse grams (kollu)
• 1 cup – Toor Dal (Thuvaram Paruppu)
• 1 – Onion chopped
• 1 – Tomato chopped
• 2 – Green chillies (slit opened)
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1 tsp – Dhania powder
• 1 tsp – Lemon juice
• 1/4 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1/4 tsp – Urad Dal
• 1/4 tsp – Asafoetida powder
• 2 – Dry Red Chillies
• 5 – Curry leaves
• 2 tsp – Coriander leaves
• Salt
• Oil
• 1 cup – vegetables (to your desire)

Method:

  1. Pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric powder up to 3 whistles.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai, add the mustard seeds, urad dal and red chillies with asafoetida powder.
  3. Let them splutter and get fried.
  4. Add chopped onion and chopped tomatoes with salt and stir them continuously until they turn translucent.
  5. Add the sprouted horse grams and green chillies to the vegetables.
  6. Stir it for a while. This helps the horse grams to get a bit cooked.
  7. Add the cooked toor dal with enough water, red chilli powder and dhania powder along with the dal.
  8. Once the horse gram is a little cooked, add the toor dal.
  9. Let it cook until the vegetables get cooked well. Add the curry leaves and coriander leaves to the dal.
  10. Put off the stove and add the lemon juice to the sambar.
  11. Don’t add the lemon juice while it is boiling. This will destroy the vitamin C present in lemon juice.
  12. Serve hot with rice topped with ghee.
