Ingredients:

• Tomato – 1 kg
• Chilly powder – 2 tsp
• Asafoetida – A little
• Sesame oil – 1 small cup
• Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Method:

  1. First wash the tomatoes and boil very well till the skin gets peeled (takes nearly 45 mins).
  2. When done, allow it to cool and grind it in a mixie.
  3. In a pan, pour the oil and put fenugreek and mustard seeds along with asafoetida. When it all sputters, put the grinded tomato paste.
  4. When it starts boiling, add the chilli powder.
  5. Boil it for further 30-45 mins until the colour of the thokku becomes dark and the oil floats.
