Ingredients:

• Urad Dal (split) – 1/2 cup
• Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
• Wheat flour – 1.5 cups
• Oil / Ghee – 4 tsps
• Water – 1/2 cup
• Oil for deep frying
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak the dal in water overnight. Drain and grind into fine paste.
  2. Heat half oil and fry the dal paste till dry. Then mix in cumin seeds, chilli powder and salt. Keep aside.
  3. Into the flour, mix in the remaining oil, salt and water to make a dough. Knead it well and make a stiff dough.
  4. Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for half an hour.
  5. Then make small balls and flatten them a bit with your palm.
  6. Put 1 tbsp of peethi mixture in the centre of each tikki. Pinch the edges together to form a ball again. Roll out into a 2 inch chapatti.
  7. Heat the oil and deep-fry these kachoris till light brown and puffed.
  8. Drain them and serve hot with pickle or chutney.
