Ingredients:
• 1 cup Urad Dal (soaked in water for 1/2 hour)
• 2-3 Green chillies
• 1/2 cup Rice (soaked in water for an hour)
• 1-2 Red Chillies (whole)
• 1/2 cup – Grated Coconut
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• Asafoetida
• Oil to season
Method:
- For the stuffing:
- Grind dal with green chillies into a coarse batter.
- Add salt and steam for 10 mins.
- Heat the kadai, add oil, whole red chillies, asafoetida, grated coconut and mustard seeds.
- Allow to splutter, then add the steamed dal mixture and mix well.
- For making the dough:
- Grind the soaked rice to form a smooth batter.
- Add sufficient water and cook until all the water vaporises and we get a dough which can be rolled into balls.
- Take a medium sized lump of dough and spread it by hand into a cup shape.
- Fill two tsps of stuffing and close it.
- When all are stuffed, steam them for 15 mins.
