Ingredients:

• 2 cups – tur dal
• 1-2 tbsp – Rock Salt
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Asafoetida
• 2 tbsp – Ghee
• 3 cups – water
• For garnish:
• Some Lemon wedges
• Slit Green chillies
• Ghee

Method:

  1. Wash and soak the dal in water for 20-30 mins.
  2. Pressure cook the dal with water till about 4-5 whistles. Churn the varan (dal) lightly.
  3. The dal should be thick in consistency.
  4. Add rock salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida.
  5. Add ghee to the varan.
  6. Let it cook on a slow flame for five minutes.
  7. Garnish with lemon wedges, slit green chillies and a dollop of ghee.
  8. Serve with hot steamed rice.
