Ingredients:

• 3 – medium-sized mackerels
• 3 – medium-sized onions, chopped finely
• 2 – tomatoes, chopped
• 2 tsp – chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 2 tsp – Vinegar
• 2 tsp – cumin powder
• 1 tsp – coriander powder
• 1 tsp – Ginger and Garlic paste
• 2 – green chillies, slit lengthwise
• 3 tbsp – oil
• salt

Method:

  1. Clean and remove the scales, fins and insides of the mackerels.
  2. Marinate it with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a flat pan and shallow fry the fish on both sides till they are evenly brown in colour.
  4. Remove and keep it aside.
  5. Heat a little more oil in the same pan and saute the onions till they are light brown in colour.
  6. Add the ginger, garlic paste, tomatoes, chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and vinegar and fry it on low heat till the tomatoes are pulpy.
  7. Add one cup of water and bring it to a boil.
  8. Add the mackerels and green chillies and mix it gently.
  9. Simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes till the fish absorbs the flavours.
  10. Serve it with rice or bread.
