Ingredients:

• 2.25 Cups – flour
• 1 tsp – Baking soda
• 2/3 cup – shortening
• 1.5 tsp – Salt
• 1 cup – Beer
• 1 tsp – Baking powder
• 1.5 cup – Sugar
• 3 – eggs
• 1/2 cup – Cocoa
• 2/3 cup – Sauerkraut (chopped, rinsed, and drained)
• For icing:
• 1 8 oz. – Cream cheese softened
• 1/2 cup – Confectionery Sugar
• 2 tbsp – Cream
• 1 tsp – Vanilla

Method:

  1. Cream butter and sugar together.
  2. Add eggs one at a time.
  3. Add beer and add cocoa.
  4. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda and powder.
  5. Add to creamed mixture slowly, until it is mixed.
  6. Fold in sauerkraut.
  7. Put into a slightly greased 9 by 15 baking pan.
  8. Bake for 30 to 45 mins at 375 degrees F.
  9. Mix cream cheese, cream and vanilla.
  10. Add sugar slowly.
  11. Spread over the cake top.
