Ingredients:

• 1 cup – red gram (tuvar) dal
• 1/2 kg – ripe Tomatoes
• 1/2 cup – onion, chopped
• 2 – green chillies, chopped
• 1 tbsp – oil
• 1/2 tsp – mustard
• 1 tsp – cumin
• 1 tsp – black gram (urad) dal
• Curry leaves – few
• 1 tsp – chilli powder
• Salt, to taste

Method:

  1. Cook toor dal with 3 cups of water till soft.
  2. Chop tomatoes.
  3. Heat oil, season with mustard, cumin and curry leaves. Add onion and green chillies.
  4. Fry till onions are just wilted.
  5. Add tomatoes, cook covered on a low flame till soft.
  6. Add chilli powder, dal, salt and water if needed.
  7. Simmer for 5 mins. Serve with rice or chapattis.
