Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Toor Dal
• 3 – Tomatoes
• 1 tsp – Sugar
• Little – Coriander leaves
• 1/2 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 5 flakes – Garlic
• 2 tsp – Jeera
• 1 tsp – black whole pepper
• 2 tsp – oil
• 1 tsp – mustard
• 1/2 tsp – Jeera
• A pinch – Hing ( asafoetida)
• A pinch – Curry leaves ( Kadi patta )
• 2 or 3 – red whole chillies

Method:

  1. Boil toor dal and 2 tomatoes with enough water in a pressure cooker.
  2. Let it cool. Then churn it.
  3. Add 1 tomato, cut into small pieces, haldi (turmeric), salt, sugar, cilantro and bring it to a boil.
  4. Mash garlic, jeera and pepper coarsely without adding any water.
  5. Heat oil, add mustard, jeera, hing, mashed spices, curry leaves and red chillies.
  6. Fry till it turns brown and add it to the boiling rasam.
  7. Serve with white rice and ghee.
