Ingredients:

• Toor (red gram) dal – 1 cup
• Green chillies – 2, slit
• Ghee or vegetable oil – 1 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Red Chillies – 2 small, broken
• Asafetida powder – 1/2 tsp
• Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Pressure cook the dal with 2 cups of water and green chillies for 10 mins.
  2. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Now mash the dal with a ladle.
  4. Add salt to taste and water for desired consistency. Let it boil
  5. Heat the ghee or oil in a small pan and splutter the mustard.
  6. To this add the red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves.
  7. Saute and add to the dal. Mix well
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or chapati.
