Ingredients:

• 2 cups – dry whole green moong dal
• 2 – potatoes, boiled and cut into small pieces
• 1 – large red onion, chopped finely
• 1/2 cup – plain yogurt
• 4-5 tbsp – Imli chutney
• Salt, to taste
• 1 – green chillies, finely chopped
• Handful of cilantro, finely chopped
• 1 – fried flour tortilla, crumbled
• Handful of fine farsan sev (available at most Indian stores)

Method:

  1. Soak the moong dal in water overnight or for 5-6 hours.
  2. Strain water. Add enough fresh water to cover the dal and cook the dal.
  3. The dal should be cooked to the point where the moong dal grain is still intact and there is some bite to the dal.
  4. Once the dal is cooked, drain, cool it and mix it with the boiled potatoes.
  5. Add the diced onions, cilantro and green chilli to the dal mix.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the yogurt and imli chutney.
  7. Add that to the dal mix.
  8. Finally, right before serving, mix in the crumbled flour tortilla and top it off with sev.
