Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Cooked black-eyed peas
• 1 cup – Lauki/bottle gourd/surakaai (chopped)
• 1 – Onion (chopped)
• 1 – Tomato (chopped)
• 2 – Green chillies (slit opened)
• 2 each – Bay leaves, cloves, Cinnamon sticks, and Cardamom
• 1 tsp – Ginger-garlic paste
• 1/2 tsp – Garam Masala
• 1 tsp – Coriander powder
• 1/4 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 2 tbsp – Coriander leaves (chopped)
• Salt
• 1 tbsp – Olive oil
• To Grind:
• 1 cup – Yogurt
• 1 tbsp – Poppy Seeds
• 5 – Almonds

Method:

  1. Grind the ingredients in the To Grind section into a fine paste and keep aside.
  2. Heat the olive oil and fry the bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and cardamom till it browns.
  3. Add the onions, tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, and green chillies and saute until they are well cooked.
  4. Add the chopped lauki and black-eyed peas to this and stir continuously until the lauki pieces are about half cooked.
  5. Add garam masala powder, salt, chilli powder, and coriander powder and stir continuously for a few minutes.
  6. Finally add the ground paste, chopped coriander leaves and enough water.
  7. Cook for a few minutes until the oil separates.
  8. Serve hot.
