Ingredients:

• 1 cup – urad dal.
• 2 cups – rice.
• salt according to taste.
• a pinch of soda.

Method:

  1. Wash and soak the rice and dal separately for about 6 hours.
  2. Drain and grind rice coarsely and the dal till it is light and frothy.
  3. Mix together dal, rice, soda and little water, salt and set aside for the whole night.
  4. Steam and serve with sambar poured over the top.
