Ingredients:
• 2 cups split peas (yellow)
• 1/2 cup finely chopped Onions
• 1/4 cup finely chopped Cilantro (or) Spinach leaves
• 4 dry Red Chilli pepper
• 1 tsp grated Ginger
• salt to taste
• oil for frying
Method:
- Soak the yellow split peas for about 4 hours. Drain the water.
- Keep aside about 2 tbsp of the soaked peas. Grind the rest of the peas along with the chilli pepper and ginger into a coarse consistency.
- Now, add the chopped onions, cilantro or chopped spinach. Add the salt.
- Add 2 tbsp of the soaked peas to the batter.
- Keep a kadai on the stove and add 3 cups of oil. Let the oil become hot.
- In the meanwhile, mix the vada dough thoroughly and make small equal balls.
- Take them one by one and flatten it on your palm and deep fry them. You can fry about 10-12 at a time.
- Turn them after a few minutes and take them out when light golden in colour.
- Serve it hot with coconut chutney or tomato chutney or with ketchup.
