Ingredients:

• Toor Dal – 1 cup
• Red Chillies – 2 or 3
• Asafoetida – a pinch
• Grated Coconut – 3 tbsp
• Tamarind – 1 Lemon size
• Coriander leaves – 1/4 bunch
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Soak tuvar dal in water for 45 mins, grind it with chillies and asafoetida and salt into a coarse semi-solid mix.
  2. Add grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves.
  3. Soak tamarind in water, strain well and boil this, with salt.
  4. Make small balls of the dal mix and boil in the tamarind water.
  5. When the dal balls are fully cooked, they rise to the surface.
  6. Serve hot.
