Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Toor Dal
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 2 tbsp – coriander
• a pinch of Turmeric
• a pinch of Asafoetida
• 1 tsp – Rice
• 1 cup – Coconut (grated)
• 7-8 – Red Chillies
• Curry leaves
• salt to taste

Method:

  1. Grind all the ingredients, except the toor dal, turmeric, salt and curry leaves, with a little water and prepare a paste (not coarse but not too fine either).
  2. Cut the vegetables into small pieces and cook with the toor dal and turmeric.
  3. Add the paste and salt to taste, mix well and let it boil.
  4. Add curry leaves while boiling.
  5. Serve with rice or as a side dish with roti.
