Ingredients:

• 1.5 kg – gol fish piece
• 3 tbsp – Ghee
• 1 – Onion (sliced)
• Salt to taste
• For grinding:
• 10 – dry Red Chillies
• A few sprigs – Coriander leaves
• 6 flakes – Garlic
• 1 inch – Ginger
• 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 tsp – Poppy Seeds
• 1 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• 1 – large Onion
• 10 – peppercorns
• 1 small ball – Tamarind
• 2 – Tomatoes
• 1 inch – Turmeric

Method:

  1. Clean the fish and remove the bones keeping the fish whole.
  2. Grind all the ingredients to a fine paste and apply on the fish.
  3. In a pan, heat ghee and fry sliced onion.
  4. Put the fish and all the masala, close the vessel with a lid and pour water on the lid.
  5. Cook on slow fire for over half an hour.
  6. After the water on the lid becomes hot, replace it with cold water.
  7. Turn the fish and let it cook on the other side.
