Ingredients:

• For Kofta:
• 2 raw plantain/banana
• 1 Potato
• 1 small Onion (finely chopped)
• Grated Ginger
• 1-2 green chillies(finely chopped)
• Salt to taste
• Red Chillies powder (optional)
• Coriander powder
• For gravy:
• 1 Onion
• 1-2 Garlic Cloves
• 1 Ginger
• 1 Tomato
• 2-3 Green chillies
• 1 tsp – Cumin powder
• Garam Masala
• 2 Cardamom
• 1 Cinnamon stick
• 2 Bay Leaves
• Turmeric powder
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. For koftas:
  2. Cut raw plantains and potato into pieces and boil till they are soft, and mash them together to smoothness.
  3. Add all the ingredients as listed above for kofta and mix them well.
  4. Make round balls with the mixture.
  5. Mix 1 tsp all purpose flour (maida), 1/2 tsp rice flour(optional, added for extra crispiness) and salt with water to make a thin paste for coating the koftas.
  6. Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan or Kadai. Dip the koftas in the above mix and fry till golden brown.
  7. Koftas are ready.
  8. For gravy:
  9. Make a paste of onion, garlic, ginger and green chillies.
  10. Heat 3 tsp of the remaining oil in the kadai. Add bay leaves, coarsely crushed cardamom and cinnamon stick.
  11. When they start to splutter add the above paste and fry on medium heat. Add one finely chopped tomato, turmeric, cumin powder, 1/2 tsp chilli powder and fry till oil separates.
  12. Add 2 cups of warm water, salt (according to taste), little sugar and boil for 4-5 minutes.
  13. Add koftas and cook covered on low flame for one min.
  14. Add 1 tsp of ghee and garam masala powder and remove from heat.
  15. Keep covered until you serve with hot chapattis or steamed rice.
