Ingredients:

• 1 cup – Rice
• 1/2 cup – tur dal –
• 2 – tomatoes, finely chopped
• 1 – onion, medium finely chopped
• 1/4 cup – carrot, diced
• 1 – potato, small diced
• 1/4 cup – Green peas
• 1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
• 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1 tbsp – oil
• salt to taste
• 2 tbsp – coriander, chopped

Method:

  1. Wash rice and dal, keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure pan and add cumin seeds. When they are brown, add finely chopped onions and saute till transparent.
  3. Add finely chopped tomatoes and fry till pulpy.
  4. Add chopped carrot, potatoes and peas and fry some more.
  5. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and fry for 2 more minutes.
  6. Add washed rice and dal and fry on low for 3 minutes.
  7. Add 4 cups water, salt to taste and close pressure pan.
  8. Bring to pressure on high heat and lower heat after one whistle. Cook on low for 8-10 minutes.
  9. When pressure reduces, open pan, check seasoning, sprinkle coriander.
  10. Serve hot with curd and pickle.
