Ingredients:

• 1 cup groundnuts
• 6 dry Red Chillies
• 2 tsps Urad Dal (black gram)
• 1/2 tsp methi/fenugreek
• 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
• 1 pinch of Hing (asafoetida)
• 1/2 tbsp Canola or other vegetable oil
• 1 tsp Tamarind paste
• Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Fry the groundnuts (not in oil, just dry fry, be careful they don’t get burned).
  2. Wait for them to cool down and remove the skins by rubbing your hands over them in a plate.
  3. Bring the cooking oil to a boil, add the urad dal and fry for 30 seconds. Then add the chillies.
  4. Gradually add methi, mustard and finally hing in that order.
  5. Put the groundnuts, the fried mixture, tamarind paste and salt in a grinder, add a small amount of water and grind to a paste.
  6. Serve with idlis or dosas.
