Ingredients:
• 1 cup groundnuts
• 6 dry Red Chillies
• 2 tsps Urad Dal (black gram)
• 1/2 tsp methi/fenugreek
• 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
• 1 pinch of Hing (asafoetida)
• 1/2 tbsp Canola or other vegetable oil
• 1 tsp Tamarind paste
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Fry the groundnuts (not in oil, just dry fry, be careful they don’t get burned).
- Wait for them to cool down and remove the skins by rubbing your hands over them in a plate.
- Bring the cooking oil to a boil, add the urad dal and fry for 30 seconds. Then add the chillies.
- Gradually add methi, mustard and finally hing in that order.
- Put the groundnuts, the fried mixture, tamarind paste and salt in a grinder, add a small amount of water and grind to a paste.
- Serve with idlis or dosas.
