Ingredients:
• Brussels sprouts – 30 (small ones)
• Toor dal- 2 cups
• Sambhar powder – 4 tsp
• Chilli powder – 1 tsp
• Brown sugar – 1/2 tsp
• Tamarind paste – 2 tsp
• Water – 6 cups
• Curry leaves – 10
• Chopped coriander -4 tsp
• a pinch – Turmeric
• salt
• For seasoning: Oil – 6 tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
• Urad dal- 1/2 tsp
• Cumin – 1 tsp
• Dry chillies – 4
Method:
- Clean and cut the Brussels sprouts at the stem ends. Pressure cook toor dal and sprouts for 3 whistles, in 6 cups of water, salt and a little turmeric.
- Heat oil in a vessel and add all the other seasonings to it. When they splutter, add the boiled toor dal with Brussels sprouts.
- Add sambhar powder, chilli powder, brown sugar, dry chillies and curry leaves to it. Add water if required.
- Make sure sprouts are not mashed while stirring. When it boils add tamarind paste.
- Keep on medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add chopped coriander and switch off the stove and put the lid on it.
- This recipe can be made using any kind of spouts, not necessarily brussels sprouts
