
Ingredients:
• Bengal Gram dal – 1 cup
• Green chillies – 3, slit
• Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
• Oil (ground nut or mustard) – 2 tbsp
• Cumin seed – 1/2 tsp
• Dry Red Chillies – 2, broken into pieces
• Ginger – 1 tsp, minced
• Fresh Coconut – 2 tbsp, cut into small pieces
• Sugar – 1/2 tsp
• Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
• Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp, chopped
• Salt to taste
Method:
- Wash the dal. Add about 2.5 cup of water, green chilli and turmeric.
- Pressure cook for 10 minutes. Cool the cooker and open it.
- Heat oil in a small fry pan. Add cumin seeds.
- When they splutter, add red chilli, ginger and coconut.
- Fry till coconut is brown. Add this seasoning to the dal.
- Mix the dal well and add enough water to get the required consistency (like a very thick soup).
- Add salt, sugar and cumin powder.
- Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves, as an accompaniment to rice or chapatti.
