Ingredients:

• 1 lb – king fish
• 1/4 kg – Onion
• 20 – Shallots
• 1 – tomato, medium
• 3 tbsp – gingili oil
• Tamarind, size of 1 small Lemon
• 1 tsp – ginger-garlic paste
• 1 – Green chilli
• 1/2 tsp – Cumin seeds
• 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
• Salt to taste
• Curry leaves, a few sprigs
• Turmeric powder
• 2 tsp – chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp – pepper powder
• 1/2 tsp – cumin powder
• 1.5 tsp – coriander powder

Method:

  1. Clean and wash the fish thoroughly with turmeric powder and salt water
  2. In a large bowl, add salt and 1/2 the portion of chilli powder, pepper powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Rub the fish with this mix.
  3. Marinate for a couple of hours in the freezer
  4. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of water for 30 minutes and extract the juice.
  5. In a kadai, heat oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then, add cumin seeds, curry leaves and green chilli and saute
  6. Then, add onion and shallots and saute until they turn golden brown. In between, add some turmeric powder and salt
  7. Add tomato and let it become soft and mushy
  8. Add ginger-garlic paste and let the raw smell disappear
  9. Add tamarind water and bring to a boil, then add the remaining portion of chilli powder, pepper powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder.
  10. Add 1/2 a cup of water and boil.
  11. Then, add marinated fish and let it blend well.
  12. Add more salt and spice if required.
  13. Let the fish cook on a low flame for 15-20 minutes.
  14. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or rotis
